  1. This is the NetNews/CD Support Software disk.
  2. It contains the following:

  4.   Ñ  TheNews news reader, written by Bill Cramer:
  5.       Read the information in this folder and use this
  6.       news reader to access the data on the NetNews/CD.
  7.  
  8.   Ñ  Sample Think C code to access the NetNews/CD:
  9.       This folder contains information ONLY OF INTEREST TO
  10.       PROGRAMMERS.  If you are NOT interested in developing
  11.       a news reader that is NetNews/CD compatible you DO
  12.       NOT need to be concerned with that folder.
  13.  
  14. QUICK START INFORMATION:
  15.  
  16. Ñ  Drag the 'TheNews' folder to a
  17.     convenient place on your hard disk.
  18.  
  19. Ñ  Print this READ ME file for reference.
  20.  
  21. Ñ  Insert the NetNews/CD in your CD drive.
  22.  
  23. Ñ  Double-Click 'TheNews-CD 2.2' (in the folder
  24.     that you created on your hard disk).
  25.  
  26. Ñ  Under FILE, PREFERENCES, select the NetNews/CD
  27.     volume (news path).  Do this by clicking on
  28.     the SET to the right of the 'News Path'
  29.     text box.   Click on DRIVE until the CD title appears.
  30.     It will be 'NETNEWS_CD_<Start Date>_<End Date>_<Year>'.
  31.     Then click on the white space below the names.
  32.     Finally, click on SELECT.  This process will have
  33.     to be completed each time you insert a different CD.

  35. Ñ  Click SAVE.
  36.  
  37. Ñ  Under FILE, select NEW.
  38.  
  39. Ñ  Under GROUPS, select EDIT GROUP LIST.

  41. Ñ  Select the groups you are interested in.  This can be
  42.     done by double-clicking each group you want to
  43.     select.
  44.  
  45. Ñ  Select DONE
  46.  
  47. Ñ  Double-Click on a group (Suggestion: To save time,
  48.     select a group with less than 100 articles).
  49.  
  50. Ñ  Double-Click on an article
  51.  
  52. Ñ  Now, let's read a few articles.  Use Cmd-F for forward
  53.     and Cmd-B for backward selection of articles.
  54.  
  55. Ñ  Under FILE, SAVE AS..., save this group list for future use.
  56.  
  57. Ñ  Select quit when finished.  Read the 'TheNews User's Manual - V2'
  58.     documentation when you get a chance.
  59.  
  60. 'TheNews' is a shareware news reader that has been updated and modified
  61. to allow access to the NetNews/CD articles.  It was written by Bill Cramer.
  62. Please support him in the spirit of shareware and encourage him to
  63. continue development on this news reader.

  65. Additional news readers will become available in the future.  We would
  66. like to encourage and help any efforts to write or update news readers
  67. capable of accessing NetNews/CD articles (i.e. local storage rather
  68. than NNTP servers).
